BROWN HYAENA
Parahyaena brunnea
W hile the brown hyaena is widely dispersed in Namibia, sightings are rare, since the animal is mostly active at night. Although brown hyaenas live in clans, they typically forage alone. They are a lot less aggressive than the slightly bigger spotted hyaena and very seldom attack livestock. The brown hyaena covers vast distances along the coast in search of food. Hunting brown hyaena is best achieved from a hide using bait to attract the animal.
