Celebrating 50 years of NAPHA
For fifty years, the Namibia Professional HuntersAssociation (NAPHA) has stood as a beacon of ethical hunting, conservation and community. This golden anniversary marks a significant
For over five decades, the Namibia Professional Hunting Association (NAPHA) has served as the authoritative voice and guiding force for professional hunting in Namibia. Founded in 1974, NAPHA was established to promote Namibia as a premier hunting destination while safeguarding the principles of ethical, fair-chase hunting and the long-term conservation of the country’s remarkable wildlife heritage.
As the officially recognised representative of the selective trophy hunting sector by the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism, NAPHA brings together professional hunters, hunting guides and industry stakeholders committed to responsible wildlife management. The association plays a vital role in developing and enforcing best-practice guidelines that ensure hunting contributes meaningfully to conservation, habitat protection and rural community development across Namibia.
NAPHA maintains rigorous membership criteria and upholds a strict code of conduct that prioritises the harvest of mature animals, fair chase principles and respect for the land. Through ongoing training, education and mentorship programmes, the association ensures that Namibia’s professional hunters continue to set international benchmarks for skill, integrity and environmental stewardship.
Beyond regulation, NAPHA actively promotes Namibia’s world-renowned model of conservation through sustainable use. By supporting science-based wildlife management and advocating for policies that balance ecological health with economic benefits for landowners and communities, the association helps demonstrate that well-managed hunting is a powerful tool for protecting biodiversity and securing wildlife habitats for future generations.
The association also celebrates excellence through its prestigious NAPHA Medal programme, which recognises hunters who demonstrate exceptional ethical conduct and field skill by harvesting mature, wild animals. This initiative reinforces the values of quality over quantity and honours the deep respect that defines true sportsmanship in the Namibian bush.
At its core, the Namibia Professional Hunting Association exists to protect and elevate the tradition of hunting in Namibia. By championing integrity, professionalism and a genuine commitment to conservation, NAPHA ensures that every hunt conducted under its standards contributes to the preservation of Namibia’s wild landscapes and the prosperity of the communities that depend on them.
